NATIONAL DEFENSE RESOURCES PREPAREDNESS

Obama signed this bill into LAW on March 16. It boils down to the government being able to comandeer ANY public or private resources not owned by the government in times of threats against national security. It also FORCES private companies to drop what they are doing to take government contracts.

to require acceptance and priority performance of contracts or orders (other than contracts of employment) to promote the national defense over performance of any other contracts or orders,

to allocate materials, services, and facilities as deemed necessary or appropriate to promote the national defense, is delegated to the following agency heads:

(1)  the Secretary of Agriculture with respect to food resources, food resource facilities, livestock resources, veterinary resources, plant health resources, and the domestic distribution of farm equipment and commercial fertilizer;

(2)  the Secretary of Energy with respect to all forms of energy;

(3)  the Secretary of Health and Human Services with respect to health resources;

(4)  the Secretary of Transportation with respect to all forms of civil transportation;

(5)  the Secretary of Defense with respect to water resources; and

(6)  the Secretary of Commerce with respect to all other materials, services, and facilities, including construction materials.

If you have a driver’s license, you should be fucking MAD. This bill is EVIL, for several reasons:

-The bill avoids phrases like “war” or “foreign aggressors” or “enemies of the state.” It is purposefully generalized to “potential threat to the security of the United States.” What defines a potential threat to the security of the US not already included in wartime acts of aggression or attacks from enemies of the state? Simple: the government is legally trying to cut the legs out of any movement within the USA that could be empathized with by the general public- any movement that the public DOES NOT consider as an enemy of the state. Now you could be considered a potential threat to the USA for whatever the CIC deems legitimate, even if you are not classifiable as an enemy to the USA.

-It delegates wartime-like power to the secretaries of the Cabinet. Typically the Cabinet’s role  is viewed as advisors to the President who has control as CIC. Now the Cabinet members can  issue decrees, regulations, or requirements to any private entity and the private entity MUST COMPLY with the Secretary. “The buck stops at the president” is no longer true.

-It is too easy for the government to manipulate free market commodities. A quick flux in the energy market could be exaggerated as a threat to US security, giving excuse for the CIC to take control of oil pipelines, internet servers, farms, roadways, etc.

-You cannot call the USA a free market anymore, since now you are not free to oppose a government contract when ordered to take it. In fact, you could be ordered to take a counter-productive contract that could destroy your long term potential. 1-2-3:

1- Your company is forced to take a government contract that your books demonstrate a drastic net loss in profitability.

2-Due to the inefficiency of the contract, you are now in debt and failing. You are forced to sell off assets.

3-A rival company with a more politically aligned ethos buys you up.

On a deeper psychological level, I think this is Obama attempting to exert power on the biggest private players in the country: the railroads, oil companies, and farming/food giants. Why? I don’t think he can accept that these companies have more power than the government due to the amount of capital these companies have. Technology has allowed private companies to have better communication and to be practically bigger than the government, therefore having more clout. This bill is primarily about the ability to commandeer private infrastructure-  infrastructure like tractors, shipping trucks, combines,and railroad engines- that are the backbone of big business.
